From casual buffets to exquisite specialty restaurants, learn everything there is to know about dining on our ships. At first glance, I had snubbed the dining and lounge area as a rip-off of a generic airport coffee shop. But during my three days on Icon, I returned to the centrally located space more often than expected. Icon of the Seas has plenty of live music venues — including rowdy karaoke and dueling pianos bars, if that counts.

I sailed on Royal Caribbean's Icon of the Seas. These were my 8 favorite amenities on the world's largest cruise ship.

The ship's riff on Broadway-approved "Wizard of Oz" — 16-piece live orchestra and flying bed included — delighted me, a hater of most musicals. There's no need to grab coffee before harnessing up for the part-zipling, part-agility Crown's Edge course. You'll be jolted awake when the floor drops from beneath your feet, leaving you dangling 154 feet above the ocean before the zipline kicks in. If you're a frequent cruiser — especially with Royal Caribbean — amenities like the mini-golf course and water playground may not seem exciting. Tour the Public Art in Burnsville, MN Did you know there are several bronze art pieces scattered throughout Burnsville?

There is no better way to experience the warm and vibrant Mediterranean than on a Norwegian cruise. Explore the sights, sounds and flavors of different cultures – all on your own terms. Visit a wide variety of ports – from glorious Rome, to glamorous Cannes, all while enjoying the freedom and flexibility Norwegian offers. Travel through the coast of Italy while indulging in traditional flavors and admiring iconic landmarks. Discover Barcelona's unique Catalan identity while taking in its stunning architecture and delectable dining.

04-30 for 5 nights

It's the first show-at-sea I've seen with a waterfall and nine-foot-tall robotic arms, and so far, it's one of my favorites. There's a reason Royal Caribbean's new mega-cruise ship is only operating seven-night sailings. With years of hard work, the Mediterranean Cruise has been recognized as the one of the top restaurants in the Twin Cities. After years of hard work and dedication, the Mediterranean Cruise Cafe has been recognized as the one of the top restaurants in the Twin Cities. In 2009, Jamal, along with his sons, Khalid and Rhami, relocated the restaurant to Burnsville where they built a beautiful, new restaurant. With their strong Mediterranean heritage behind them, Jamal and his sons have created many original delicacies from Jerusalem, Palestine, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Morocco, Italy, Turkey and Greece.

THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT Mediterranean Cruises

When Jamal Ansari landed in the land of opportunities in 1976, all he had was $40 in his pocket and a big dream. Three years later, after enrolling in college and working many odd-end jobs, Jamal's dream became a reality.

Other ‘don’t miss’ offerings at “Med Cruise” are daily Happy Hours, Monday-Thursday, 3pm-6pm, and Friday-Sunday, 2pm-5pm, and the Lunch Buffet Monday-Friday, 11am-2pm. In 1979, the Ansari brothers from Jerusalem created and established the Mediterranean Cruise Cafe in Eagan, Minnesota. After years of working together, some of the brothers left the business to pursue other endeavors. From that point on, Jamal Ansari has been the sole owner of the Mediterranean Cruise Cafe.

In addition to more frequented ports, you will get to uncover gems like Split, Croatia. There, you can savor classic Dalmatian cuisine, known for its masterful use of seafood paired with aromatic herbs, olive oil and vegetables. But if you're a jazz fan or looking for a peaceful nightcap, none of these options will top the live music at Lou's Jazz 'n Blues. The 1,196-foot-long, 20-deck Icon of the Seas is packed with bars, restaurants, and things to do. Any shorter of an itinerary, and you might not have time to experience all it has to offer. Mediterranean Cruise Café recreates its strong Mediterranean heritage with a menu of delicacies and service style that reflects its origins in Greece and the Eastern Mediterranean.

You're assured front-row seats to the most unforgettable views because no other cruise line in Europe offers more balconies. And no other cruise line even comes close to the flexibility of Freestyle Cruising®. Norwegian's Mediterranean cruises transport you from the ruins of ancient empires in Rome to trendy shops and restaurants in Santorini.

While I would've preferred a quieter atmosphere (the DJ did not, in fact, play smooth jazz), the pool's views, day beds, and lack of screaming children were hard to beat. I spent my time there perched at one of its in-water loungers, contently splashing my legs around the water, wondering if I actually hated cruises. If you want to feel like you're drinking in a nest atop a tree, bring your coffee-infused cocktail from nearby Rye and Bean to one of the elevated pods.
